ShoutCast Tutorial
Welcome to aF Radio's Shoutcast Tutorial. Please go over all instructions carefully.
Remember you are expected to know everything on this shoutcast tutorial. You will be
graded on your performance the first time you get on air to DJ. What counts the most?
Being able to connect on first try
Getting ALL information correctly
Good First Impression - no stalling
If you have any questions please contact me on AIM: xxsorax
Getting help from other DJs is a good idea too.
Getting Started:
Download the latest version of Winamp
Download SHOUTcast DSP Plugin For Winamp 5.x
Requirements & Tryout Clip information is under 'Become a Tryout'
Rules
Before proceeding please read all the rules that I expect each and every DJ to follow.
Only Chinese, Korean, and Japanese Music is allowed. Kindly deny any other
requests for other languages.
Please make sure instrumentals are not included in your playlist.
Instrumentals can only be played as background music.
Be yourself. Having your own unique way of DJ'ing is a plus.
Advertise aFradio.com on your aim profile plus a link to your playlist.
Links on your xangas, myspace, etc. are welcome too.
You will need to be present in the chatroom while you're DJ'ing.
All DJs are required to have an AIM screen name for contacts.
Keep your DJ session PG13 - no cursing.
Be respectful to listeners and DJs. Extra respectful to your head DJs =)
Be as active as possible. A minimum of 2 hours a week.
Please make sure your connection is working properly. You will get two
chances, if connection is still bad, you will get kick off and lose your
chance to DJ that night.
Do not download any music while DJ'ing - doing so might cause the server
to buffer/skip.
Make sure your mic is working properly.
When you are DJ'ing make sure you only have Winamp, Aim, and the Chatroom
open. Close other programs to decrease chances of using too much memory.
Remember your Winamp Shoutcast uses a lot of memory. Do not lag your computer
by having unnecessary programs open.
Be sure to have your aim sounds or any other sounds on your computer off!
Keep away from chatting while talking. Listeners do not want to hear you
type.
While tryingout you should pay attention to your head DJs and fellow DJs
because they would be telling you if you're doing something wrong.
Do not believe remarks in the chatroom. The DJs would tell you if something
is wrong.
One thing - It's easier than it looks.. so don't freak out!!
Step One

Open Winamp
Right click on Winamp
Options - Preference - DSP/Effect
Click Nullsoft Shoutcast Source DSP

Port: 9012
Password: will be provided
Encoder: 2
Check Automatic Reconnection and put 1 second
Step Three
Click on Yellowpages button

Fill out the following:

URL: http://www.afradio.com
Genre: Asian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese

example: DJSora)

Check 'Enable Title Updates' and check Auto on both Title and URL
Check 'Connect at Startup' for automatic connection.. then uncheck
after you are connected to the server. You will know you are connected to
the server once a timer goes off saying SENT: 00:00:00
Step Four
Click on Encoder tab
Click 'Encoder 2' for settings
Encoder Type: MP3 Encoder
Encoder Settings: 96 kbps, 44.100kHz, Mono
Only MP3's Work!! Do not use any other formats!!!
Step Five
To make the DJ'ing experience better. We are pushing forward to use
fade in/out style instead of regular switching.
Old way of DJ'ing was as simple as this:
Input Device: Winamp for music
Switching back and forth to..
Input Device: Soundcard for talking
Settings shouldn't be configure.
Now we are not using the above method anymore.
Our new style is having background music. Please pay close attention
to the instructions or else it wouldn't work.
Mic Input: Microphone
Music Level: -8 dB
BG Music Level: -20 dB
Mic Level: -1 dB
Fade Time: 1500ms
Now click on 'Open Mixer'
Step Six
When you open your mixer you might want to move the master volume window around
because it overlaps your recording control window.
In the Recording Control check select under 'Stereo Mix' or 'What U Hear' or
'System Mix' this varies depending on your computer. It could be any of these.
Adjust the volumes of the 'Stereo Mix' and 'Microphone' according to the
picture below.
Click on 'Advanced' and make sure your mic is boost.
NOTICE: Make sure the microphone is NOT MUTE!!!
This is how it should look like when you are playing music!
The wave volume bar should be up and your microphone volume bar should be
down but not mute!

Step Seven
When you want to talk on the mic you click 'Lock'
You will then see the microphone volume bar increasing and the wave
volume bar decreasing as seen on the picture below.
When you've finish talking you click 'Lock' again and the mic volume
would decrease and the wave volume would increase back to where it was.
Make sure you have music playing AT ALL TIMES! So be prepared!! Always have
the next song ready to be played.
You don't need to keep your Recording Control Window Open, but keep your
Master volume window open to see the vol bars go up and down.
This is how it would look like when you are talking.
